Good bye you guys!
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to post a farewell message from the rudeboy. When peasants feel the cold hand of oppression they either lay down and die or revolt!
I thought if I started a new kite site for MN kiters that either it would fail or cause others to rise to the occasion. Competetion is a good thing for everyone. Best offers lower kite prices and the others had to take notice and offer the kiters something better too.
Same with this situation. I can't post stuff here for you all to read about other things happening in your local kiting scene unless it benefits this place in some way so the revolt is happening. I got my pitchfork and I'm a fiesty peasant! I'm going grassroots style so watch out for my army handing out stickers and sponsoring events. Organizing demos for all kite brands and sponsoring events that are actually about the riders. We're going to be kiting whereever the wind is the best and not only where we can be in the spotlight and seen by spectators. This is the new underground.
I'll still see you all at the spots we love and my new dark horse persona I've gained from here will be enough fuel to keep me at it for a long time. See you on the front lines everyone!

Dear Rudeboy,
First, let me say I've always enjoyed your posts and core energy. Second, let me say I have no idea what this is about. I've been out of the inner circle for several weeks, but this last post of yours has perked my curiousity. While competition is good, I've found it only good to the point the market has developed enough to create a void. Filling this void is the key to successful competition. However, in young developing markets, dispersed energy in many cases leads to diminished impact...witness what happened to windsurfing where the industry was filled with complaint and controversy at the expense of collaborative efforts to grow the sport. Too many 'shoulds' and 'I know thats' were spoken, closing the sport to the tremendous window of opportunity it had.
It wasn't long ago that I was complaining about the way kiters got in the way of my sailing, how I was always rescuing them and how I could never imagine a kiter rescuing me. This past January, it was a kiter who pulled me from a difficult situation while wavesailing Maui. Simply put, we riders have joined into a mutual experience few will ever taste. We're simply not of scale to disperse in our notions of separateness. While I'll stay away from the 'I know', my experience leads me to believe that as long as Tighe puts his energy to this site it will be the main portal for Minnesota windsport riders.
Again, I have no idea what conflict led to this post. I've spoken to no one about it and present this post as an outsider. I can only say, in the interest of growing Minnesota windsports, that it would seem very important for you to make one more attempt at mediation before pulling from your paticipation in this community through Tighe's site. If I could be of any assistance in this, let me know.

Rudeboy,
I wanted to second Randy's comments and add that, whilst you seem to indicate some friction with this site and/or Tighe, I wonder why. Being a Naish rider, I've noticed the propensity for things to lean towards Slingshot around here - hence your illusion to Best kites, perhaps? If this is a 'brand battle', you may be a little off-base.
I've had a number of conversations with Tighe about the site. He has always expressed a painful interest in keeping the forums (and other parts) relatively neutral. Since I host the site for him (and you - and all other LAKAWA users, for free) I wouldn't have it any other way.
So, if you are at odds with how this site operates then you may want to rethink that position and should have a civil conversation with Tighe.
I'm not sure where you'd even get the impression that "I can't post stuff here for you all to read about other things happening in your local kiting scene unless it benefits this place in some way...". You can post whatever you want, just be polite and respectful of others. If you want to put a sales pitch out there, use the Classifieds, put your Events in the events area, or strike up conversations in Chat.
If you just have an itch to develop a web site and start your own thing, more power to you. Far be it from me to cast doubt about chasing your dreams.

I think all Rudeboy is trying to say is that he is tired of unnecessary cencorship and one group trying to control every aspect of our sport!! Making rules and regulations for a sport that gives us the greatest feeling of freedom that one can possibly achieve...Kiteboarding!! Do us all a favor and don't wreck it with rules. Be young, have fun, and go Kiteboarding!!
It's all about freedom...It's all about the ride!!
Speak your mind freely at Minnesota's new kite forum

Does this have anything to do with the negative posts by Andy directed toward the kitefreeze event allegedly being shut down? I remember seeing them on kiteforum.com in the snowkiting forum.
I noticed the original contents were edited there.
Also, what's being censored???? Attitudes towards brands, events, shops? That's always a fun one. I say bring back the SlingSluts!

From my perspective, I moved from North Carolina a few years ago where we had a windsurfing club that organized learn-to-sail days, beach weekends, races, etc. We met our very best friends in that club and they are now godparents of my daughter. Before I moved to Minnesota, a google search quickly led me to windancing.com and it was extremely important for me to learn that there was a community of wind worshippers out here. It would be a sad thing to see a split in this community. I also think that is is very valuable that both kiters and windsurfers hang out on this site. We have the same interests and share the same elements. I hope a resolution can be found here.
Olive Branch
To quote my cultural heroe, Rodney King,"Can't we all just get along?" I feel suddenly divided, or more accurately, sitting on the sidelines puzzled.
I don't know what caused two friends that I admire and respect to reach this point. Don't make us choose sides! Maybe a little compromise: loosening up a little here, and reigning it in a bit there...Now let us all sing hymn # 23,"United we stand, divided we fall..." jn

Don’t be stupid...don’t ride lake Calhoun... The wind is only good in about 15-20% of the lake on any given windy day. There are buildings and trees that cause the wind to swirl making only small portions of the lake rideable. This portion depends on the wind, hence the windsurfers cruising in a particular area and not going all over the place. If this conversation is about kiting lake Calhoun, then this is ridiculous. If u kite lake Calhoun you are a moron and are endangering yourself, others, and the sport. I live near there and will be pissed if some jackass balls up this sport for the rest of us. I guarantee if u boyz kite on Calhoun an accident will occur and the sport will be banned shortly there after...that will sell u boyz some kites...sharp thinking... Is this really what the "underground" movement is about? If so, this is hands down the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Its not a rule, it’s a judgment call made by 99.99% of the people involved, u guys being the .01%… Is this really about Calhoun? It cant be…

If you have never had a post deleted from this site or threatened to be banned from this site. Than you have no clue what this argument is about. It has nothing to do with Calhoun.
Unfortunately there is a ton of political BS going on in kiteboarding with people that have interests in the sport other than 'just riding'. Unfortunately, Board Sports is usually somehow right in the middle of the political kiteboarding circus. Fortunately, most of the people reading this aren't at all involved in the poltics of kiting and are just here to ride! I envy you people!! Do yourself a HUGE favor and don't ever change that!!

It's all about the RIDE!!
Well, it seems like once a year there's always some drama that erupts in the forum.
I've had posts deleted...and you know...it doesn't bother me a bit. It's nothing I take personally toward Tighe or LAKAWA. When we're out there on the lakes, none of it makes a difference.
Just ride the flow and kite on, period.
I hope to see both factions out there as kiters and not adversaries...deep breaths....

Have kite, will travel.
groups, fractions, politics, us, them.... what's happening to our community? It's hard to be on vacation and be reading all this. Before this gets blown up online, let's stop all this, and I'll try to get together with anyone interested upon my return. It must not be blowing, because as BMR points out, in the wind...it's all good.

I think that all of this is rediculous and that all parties in this are acting 13 year old boys. I though real men came hear to chat about Kiting not run a popularity contest. I understand not wanting to be censored and if you don't like it I think that rudeboy did the right thing by starting his own site. I think that coming on here and playing a pity party about however is very immature.
I know that rudeboy started his site to help the northern part of the state and he was not going to post here at all. I told him that it is always good to share all options with people and that the LAKAWA staff would understand and let him post. I was wrong and that is unfortunate. I really believe that with both of these forum working together the kiters of MN would have benefited greatly and I feel that it is both parties responsibility to act like adults and make that happen. Good luck to both site and I am sad to report that unfortunately my respect for both has been hurt.
