Most sailors out there when completing a gybe tend to slow down (even stall out) before fipping the sail during a gybe.
This is fine,,perfectly O.K. if you're satisfied with at least completing the gybe (not falling in) and then pick up speed again after gybing.
But....if you want to plane, speed through the gybe,,,you must keep your speed up!
This means: Before you start the Gybe you must be at hyper speed! This essentially means don't start your gybe until you are going so fast
that your eyes are turning red and you think you're going to pee your pants! That's how fast you must be going in order to "speed" through the gybe.
Once you pass through the eye of the wind downwind (completely 180 degrees and after flipping the sail) as soon as you have the sail on the other side, tip boom forward
so that you head downwind and pick up speed again imeadiately.
Don't let the board "round" up after gybing...you're just slowing down.
This is just my two Euros worth on the subject. I'm just a high intermediate sailor so don't take my word for gold,,maybe,, bronze or copper!
The most important think is to have fun! I still am working on improving my gybes. It's a lifetime goal!
Windsurfing on the Rise!
Quetzalcoatl out.
tips on Planing through the gybe..."SPEED is KEY"!!
