IKO or PASA certification for gear rental

Post by Bill S. »

In the coming year my job will fortunately take me to several international destinations with great kite boarding. With weight limits on baggage I can't bring my gear with me and will need to rent. All of the rental centers I've contacted require an IKO card (level 1 or above), PASA card (level 2) , or the equivalent, to authorize rental. Question: Are there IKO and/or PASA certified instructors locally I can connect with in order to become certified? Any information about certification procedures and renting gear internationally is sincerely appreciated. Many thanks!

I was interested in their certification for the same reason. When I read the small print on their website, I was put off by the waiver they wanted you to sign, wherein you waive the right to sue any event sponsors or promoters. This gave me pause, and I hope to have our lawyer look at it before signing up. I was concerned that if there was blatant disregard for the well being of participants, members would have no legal recourse, in the event of a mishap. I'd be interested in hearing your opinion, too.

I picked up the IKO card through Air Padre last time I was down there. Haven't tried to use it anywhere for rentals yet, but thought it might be handy to have.
