Calling Okoboji, Spirit Lake, Sioux Falls and surrounding

Post by MK »

A few years ago the school went to Spirit Lake/Okoboji area and held some classes. I was able to connect with one of their locals recently on the SPI trip and develop the idea to return.

It is looking like June 11, 12 and 13th will be the dates. If you are in this area, know of people interested, and available, this will be a good opportunity to learn the sport in a safe manner through professional instruction. More details on what we offer can be found: http://www.lakawa.com/school/summersession.html

Come find out why this Chat room is so active with stoke and learn the right way so you can ride with pride. You will find the community very inviting and particularly helpful if they see you have learned and developed some practical skills.

I have a short list already from those of you who have contacted me. To get on the schedule please contact me: mike@lakawa.com

If the wind doesn't present itself it looks like Worthington Windsurfing and Unvarnished Music Festival may be a fun option: http://www.worthingtonwindsurfing.com/

Mike and all

Just returned from a great afternoon session on Spirit Lake with Perry and some of the local IA crew. I'm up for a one day trip on Friday if it looks like the wind's gonna blow. I'd be happy to share the ride with someone if they can only go for Friday.

Good Stoke,
Thanks for coming down Bill, good to see you, ride and compare notes and launch techniques you use at Ramsey. We had a good coterie of 7 riders sunday afternoon for a 17-27mph wind range. There weren't a lot of bathers pressuring us for use of the beach, and all of them I talked to kind of liked the entertainment. It is hard to pull out and travel far if the wind is blowing at home.
How did the east side crew do in Clear Lake?
It looks like Wednesday is slated for 17 -27 WNW, So the Big Spirit Lake Spillway near term looks like the place again ,hopefully the weekend f'cast picks up some velocity.

PERRY, We tried to blend in with the IOWEGIANS by burping and scratching alot. It was gusty, but the State Park launch was nice, as were the locals. One helped out after a near miss with a dock, another gave me a ride back on his jetski after the wind stopped. We had fun, the folks seemed to enjoy the Air Show, and we got a long needed wind fix.

Hey JRN,
It looks like it will be close to in the red tomorrow and red Friday on the sailflow chart for Jackson, which is the nearest reporting station.
If your jumping and flight skills are really good you could go from Iowegia to Mn over the road at the north end of Big Spirit,or vice verse.
Oh,by the way...What is the status of Carlsona for camping during the upcoming Mille Gathering :?: Gotta make it up there to kite.

Looks like the wind is a little light today down there.

I'm planning on taking off tomorrow early morning with the boat. I'll head straight to Spirit and if the forecast hold true to wind direction I'll set up and launch the boat at Templer Park and Rec on the lower SW side: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=43.4 ... 33002&z=15

After speaking with Perry it looks like it may be a collection of people with the first names ending in "y":

Perry
Barry
Billy
Holly

Chad H. and I will need to consider changing our first names to include a "y" for the weekend. If you are monitoring this thread and available to join us give me a call

Good times were had but no wind. It was teasing us at times just enough to lull me in twice. First time I was able to do a little ride but wasn't able to hold my line due to the light winds. Should have chosen to do a down winder, would have been perfect.

Glad to meetup and see the lay of the land. Beautiful city/cities. Doesn't seem like Iowa at all!

Hard to see the interest and schedules cleared to stare at the lack of wind but glad all were understanding. Looking forward to next time!
