Skyline Drive, Utah?

Re: Skyline Drive, Utah?
I finished my business stuff in Spanish Fork Monday at noon. Headed straight up to Skyline knowing that I since I had a 5pm flight, I wouldn't be able to kite, but that the drive might be worth it anyway. Arrived at the skyline at 1:15. Talked to a guy named Josh, and watched a half-dozen kiters on 12M foils go up an play around at the top of one of the hills. Bluebird day, 30º, low to mid teens wind. Left at 1:45 - after only a half hour.
Hard to leave, but great to fuel the imagination for another time. Amazing place.

Seamonks...
What happens if you catch a thermal, fly way out, and fall into the ocean?
ugh...
the WORST of both worlds, the kinda stuff night terrors use for fuel...

Bosco Hill on Skyline drive: 180º pano. The view from the top of that hill is phenomenal (or at least should be from what you can see from the road to the right.)

Re: Skyline Drive, Utah?

Sorry I missed you, I would have like to have met you that day. I will give you a backstory to that frame you shot: D,flying that kite to the right came down and said he had not seen his partner move from below the cornice midfield right of the trees in the picture. His partner B had been soaring off
there in the past hour. We couldnt spot B without binoculars, I was closest to being able to launch so D asked me to follow him if we needed to skin back there in the windshadow. You are looking SW,where the wind was from. D was on a 15meter w/snowboard and I was on an 11meter w/skis. I was a little amped by then so that helped me follow him up that tracked area in the right field and work the kite up. D spotted B as we got up there around that toilet bowl in midfield right of the shadowed cornice. We got waved off then and stayed up there and played but I never got higher than the first tacks up. Post session, B told us he was sawing off a cornice w/his board to climb back up to the wind, not only once but twice.
In a nutshell. Lots to experience ,lots to learn here.

Just when I was leaving, I heard something like " yeah, we found him, he's OK". Looking at the terrain, I was pretty sure that there are some learning curves and subtle mistakes / happenings that can lead to big consequences, depending on the weather, time of day, etc.
Sorry I missed you.
See you in the flats on WBL?

Definitly, either there or the crossing on Mille Lacs.
Any word on how that's shaping up?
Still waiting for snow out here. When was the west ever
envious of the Midwest for snow amounts?
Returned to Skyline today but not much
wind,16's weren't even flying encased in clouds.

Re: Skyline Drive, Utah?

Not much wind till I got back into Park City. Checked out 3spots and 2 were ok out by
the Home Depot and the Ability Center off hiway 40. The Richardson Flats kiters got a bad reception on private property, but the other 2 spots were cool. Probably about 20 + acre fields, and it helps to be able to loft a barb wire fence.
Got a session on my 6 meter & skis, took a break and demo'd a closed cell 8 meter foil later. Lots of all types of kites in the air today, imps and 12 meters, and probably the most LEI kites I have seen out here yet. I gotta think about trying a snowboard cause everybody is flying em about 2 sizes up from what is comfortable for use skiing.

New 8 in.powder and an almost fresh southern breeze today. Flyin an 11 foil and skis. Nice second bench in this valley leading to a bottom and a lot more than 20 acres I saw it as the other day. Lots of clean tracks to lay down for a good hour and half with a couple other kiters and I laughed out loud as it filled in with wind and kiters. How is the sight secured? Dont know, they must be blessed.
3 pallets are stacked to step over the fence to rig but you have to jump the rest.
Still working on it, bowtied, postholed and rerigged midway day in the 2nd session. Some things never change.Lost my gizmo to load the pics. KISS

Yes Jim, telemark bindings & skis do help. Telemarking is in my opinion, is making your 2 skis the same as one, long mono-ski. I still prefer to snowkite with a snowboard VS telemark skis.

One last thought.... where was Telemark created? The place where skiing was invented. Telemark/snowboarding equal the best of the best. Alpine skiing is for Minnesotan dork-dumb-un-educated-Swedes.
