Superior Heads Up

Post by Randy »

Looks like Tuesday and possibly Wednesday to check out those wave angles. Too early to tell, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.

Thanks to Randy, I am now focused on trying to make Tuesday a go. A few things to shuffle around. Might be able to shoot up early on my motorcycle. Looks like a one kite/one board kinda day.

Kurt, my wife gave me the thumbs and the bike is loaded. I will check the wind in the morning. If it looks good, I plan to head out between 7-7:30am. I can post here if you want me to.

I will be looking at:
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KDYT.html

If the readings are not decent out of the NE by 6 or 7am, I might pull the plug and save it for another day.

I'm going to check at 0500. If its looking a solid 15 or I should be able to swing it and will likely slip away earlier. I will post in am.

Sorry guys, I didn't see this one coming. I'm not sure what these whether guys are smokin - I don't see their predictions setting up. Its not happening yet and I don't expect it to.

I have never seen a true "Noreaster" setup with high pressure cells like we have now. If we don't have a big fat juicy low pressure cell lumbering along south and west of here, it ain't gona happen.

Really? I trust your call on this one. You know the big lake better than most of us.

Just for clarification...you don't think there will be much of anything today?

In the Bayfield area its blowing NE at about 20-22 knots, Sky Harbor has been rock solid from the north all night. The surface plot just doesn't look NE to me.. When we have a Low Cell, the hills on both sides of the lake tend to act as a funnel - like at the Gorge and accentuate the wind on Park Point in particular. You can look at the weather conditions at Devils Island and figure you can add 10 mph to what ever they have there if its blowing NE in both places.

Don’t get me wrong, it may be great for kiting and big sails, but not the classic NE at 30. Not something I would normally consider checking out….

go to Duluth NOAA page, click Duluth weahter, click more local weather, then click on Sky Harbor and you can get 24 hour trending of winds - its pretty good N at about 15 now.. that's what I would expect it to stay at..

I'm here now 8:30 a.m. Steady 15mph but that's about it. If you're coming, bring your 16m.
