I'm worried about directly on shore winds and not being able to get out. I had that problem a few weeks back near park point. I've never been to Wisconsin Point, or the Allouez bay pensiula, but would it be a better option with NE winds. Comments?
thanks Kurt

Wow, be careful and use caution. I've played on the mother alot in this kind of system, it gets very hairy quick. High current and monster white water can take it toll very fast.

I'm in Wisonsin watching the forecasts and stoke unfold. I won't be able to make this one. Someone bring a camera!!!!! Come on Coach you have that super slick one...put it to use.

Sounds like epic Superior. Ride safe. Check Knowledge section for some valuable wisdom from experienced riders...mainly windsurfers but applicable to all.

Ride safe and have fun.

Ridin' and music

Post by Randy »

Just a reminder that the Bayfront Blues Festival starts tomorrow around 4:30. I love a place in Superior called Bev's Juke Joint and Eddie Shaw is playing there tomorrow night. Just a heads up for any of you coming up. I think this is an early birthday present from my dad.

Basically I think it's going to be to big for my intermediate level of experience. What kite size are we looking at here? As much as I will hate to make the drive and not get out, I think I have to see it go off!

30knots Ithink is arround 40mph so 5-8m... and those waves are going to jack up BIG when they hit the sandbar. I wouldn't go if your are not confident in your abilitys. those wave will thrash you and your kites. but it might not goo off that big... Noaa explt is only showing 20knots at this point so you could be good but that is a long drive (atleast for me).

carefull don't try to ride past your abilitys.... 30knots and 9ft waves is way beyond my ability's.

The experimental doesn't show it going off that big for wind - but it's going to have a long fetch. I'm hoping for big waves and moderate kite sizes...

I'm with you coach, If I can't ride my 14 I might be in trouble. I was going to suggest to everyone here that if your kiting you might enjoy Wisconsin Point over Minnesota Point. They both have the same conditions (waves and wind) but I think WP will be a little more side shore, and alot less crowded. The number of people at Tot Lot can be crazy on big days. Everyone goes out to enjoy the show.

I suggest that the kiters go to Wisconsin point. That way were all together, get to push the stoke to a new level, and avoid any pedestrian complications. To get there you drive over to wisconsin on 535 and at the end of the bridge go left on 53. That will go for about five miles till you see a sign for wisconsin point on your left. Post up where your going if you can, it's always great to enjoy the ride with others.

Nate, Matt and myself are here tonight. We might go to superior point and crash there and ride there. I do have a camera but I heard John P was coming up too.

as far as weather predictions, I have little faith in their accuracy so it is half as good as they say it will be were golden !

John Pederson and I are hitting the road at 7:00am. Should be there at 10:00. We will be looking for the kites. It's been so long that I've been riding only my 16.5 that I hope I remember how to ride my smaller stuff.

I'll be kiting. Sounds like wisconsin point would be better for kites and I'll likely end up there. Hitting the road shortly at 0500. my cell is 651-485-4571

Barker Island

Post by Randy »

If you want the wind, but don't want to risk the power of the waves, a good place is Barker's Island. I've heard the water quality may be low, but the wind comes over the point for some great flat water sailing. There's a good parking lot at the hotel. Be sure to wear booties. It's been awhile since I've been there, but I think it could be a good kiting location with shallow water near shore. Again, however, it is an onshore location, but I think you can walk out a bit. Just a thought for some of you contemplating getting some of this wind without the wave. Any comments from you Duluth kiters on this?

Heading out the door now and should be at Tott Lot before 10!
