Thursday morning is looking good, not much beyond that. May have to juggle things around for a dawn patrol session.

Dave/Tom/anyone-else think you can get up there? Anyone want to head a little further north to Lester or something else sideshore?

I'm shooting for a dawn patrol session so I can leave for the cities by 11:00am. Hope to see you there.

I plan on checking out Lester first and foremost, since it's only a short drive up the shore. If it doesn't look good, Tot lot it is...

I might be able and willing to burn some vacation if it looks promising. What's the best spot going to be?

Schedule cleared.

Only been to Duluth once a couple of weeks back, but had a blast on a marginal day...keeping my fingers crossed.

Sorry - likely can't carpool, I'll have to bolt back for a meeting after squeezing in a few hours up there.

Forecast is down, but still looks decent. It will take 30+ knots to make Lester or some of those other north shore spots go off.

I'm thinking Tot Lot is the place once again.

I'll drop by to check conditions. If it looks too scary, I may book over to Milly. C U there! JN P.S: How do you rate this spot? Intermediate to advanced?

Looking good.

Looking forward to a warm water Superior session. I agree, the winds can be light for getting out at Lester, and then, once out, if you break down, it's a loooonnng float to shore.
Tott Lot is an awesome spot for that very reason...you're seldom more than minutes from your float back to shore with the occassional ten to twenty minute wait to overcome a possible rip current.
So far, it looks like Devil's Island is on fire, with winds somewhat lighter for Duluth, meaning the waves could be coming in pretty good. At Tott Lot it's pretty on shore, but the water's shallow and you can walk out through the surf for a good buffer zone. Kite launch is pretty good walking to the right of the swimming area, especially on a week day.
Personally, I haven't kited this beach, but have windsurfed it extensively. On a windsurfer, it's definitely advanced. You'll need to be full attention as you decide which waves to port jump, which ones to run from and which moment to bust through. If it's big, stay on the inside, close to shore and play the surf. The waves simply move too fast on the outside, fold unpredictably, and are too close to get back up if you go down. If it's blowing 20-25mph, it's probably some of the best sailing/kiting you'll ever experience, both on the inside and outside. If it's gusting much over 35mph, it's perhaps some of the world's most challenging sailing you'll ever experience.
Chip...Ben...Chris...any further thoughts? Wavekiters who've done the big lake...comments?
Looking forward to a rare warm August sailing day.

I dont know any of these spots your refering to. Would you post quick easy locations Randy?

I've been to the superior shore. I thought NE was good for that location.

Is this deceiving?

I'm sort of feeling a bit intimitated by the potential wind and waves. I kited twice earlier this summer near the airport and it was awesome. Where is the tott-lott? Where is lester? I'm almost certainly going!

The directions to the tott lott are up in the "Lakes" section on this site (the first launch site after the bridge). For lester river you continue on 35 all the way through town (it turns into 61 as you enter town) and it is right at the edge of town.

Water temps look good! We haven't had much wind up here this year so I hope it makes up for lost time!!! Forecast is changing but still looks promising

Randy, you in? I'll be there! Ben, Chip??

There's no way I'd miss this one. I should be at Tott Lot very early and have cleared the entire day. Probably spending the night in case there is some residue Friday morning. :D
