Blutt rear (stearn) kayaks seem to be out on the market lately. These are found on some of the
cheaper kayaks on the market. I got one that would be comfortable for my big brother in laws (for wt. of 320 lbs.).
They both took turns and loved it! But the Kayak stearn is blunt, cut off or flat not sharp like the bow. I'm thinking
of getting another smaller one (wt. limit is 240 lbs) and maybe it will be a bit swifter. I noticed when I took out the
"Blunt butt" kayak it not only was slower than my other kayaks (which have pointed ends at bow and stean) but I couldn't
move very fast when kayaking in reverse when teaching windsurfing to a newbie. My other little kayaks (sharp at both ends)
move just as fast forward as backwards.
I think the reason for the blunt stearn is that it continues down below hull and acts like a fin, or keel and thus may improve tracking?
Quetzalcoatl out.
Kayaks, blunt rear (stearn) vs. sharp strn, I'm gonna paddle
