Milly bug hatch
I was at Reddy yesterday and the stink is on. How many bug hatches does that lake have? I can tell you it was better out in the water than being on shore. The day started slowly so I grabbed a garbage bag and went for a walk it did not take long and my bag was full. I want to tell the Ozone rider thanks for the tips. I am a newbie and I never would have tried a kite loop to make power. That blew me away he was very good at it. I would like to meet up with him again. I am sure he has a few other tricks to teach.

I was the mistake just waiting to happen not you. I can say I have made my share of mistakes but I am learning its all part of the game we play with Mother Nature and she can be a bitch sometimes. A few kitemares have come my way. I just make sure I am not taking anybody with me. Safety first!
Steveb if that was you thank you for the tips next time after flying the cold ones are on me.
I used to climb radio towers for work little did they know I was having fun doing it.

Please anyone if you ever have a question any question just ask. In kiting there never is a wrong question, I hope you had a great time kiting!!
Steve, Caroline said she ran into you at Malmo, i didn't want to go to Reddy because of the moth's but I did get the swimmer itch too from Friday when I was up there, Saturday rocked and I should have stayed or the Sunday too but it rained so hard Sunday morning that I thought it was going to be crappy, so i left 20+ mph winds, dammit!!!

I was there last Thursday and I also have bite marks even after taking steps to remove them. Now that I think about it I wonder if I have some in the van. 3 new bites showed up yesterday.

Scott. Yeah I was sorry to have missed you, some of the older windsurfers will remember Craig Reid. I was helping Craig get this kiting thing down.
Typical of Craig he was showing a fine touch and is going to learn in no time.
My swimmers itch has turned into my worst case ever, yesterdays I was seriously considering amputating my legs, pain would be easier to deal with than this constant itching.

I've heard that using sunscreen prevents the swimmer's itch beasties from being able to attach. Did you guys use this and still get attacked? Does the sunscreen method really work?
Re: Milly bug hatch
Yeah that swimmers itch is nasty stuff, I got probbaly 6 bites on my legs, sucks. What I try and do is stay out of the weeds around Malmo, that's where the ducks hang out and I think the parasites cling on to until someone or something else comes alonmg and then they tag a ride on you and do there damage. I almost think I might just buy a 1mm something to cover my legs when I'm in Malmo, nothing else seems to work. I can feel my legs itch right now, really sucks, at least they are not bot flies, holy crap are those things nasty looking, check em out on youtube, it will scare the sh*% out of you!!!

Scott. 6 bites would be luxury. I've not bothered to count as it's more a case of where aren't they. And yes I was covered with sunscreen, doesn't help at all.
To give you an idea how bad I've got it I even have one on my right butt cheek, which seems to me located right where the cheek hits the chair. The bites have gone from itching like crazy to semi itchy but inflamed so my left butt cheeks getting tired from all the extra "take the weight" work.
It's just so fun!.

Hey Steve,
Years ago at Clear Lake, Iowa I got 150+ bites from knees down. I tried suggested type of bar soap, calomine lotion & clear fingernail polish. I think the nail polished worked the best creating a shell coating over the bite. Liquid bandage probably might work also to seal the bite (might sting a little). Takes about a week to run it's course. I'm wearing long water pants to avoid the bugs, sunburn and shallow water sand rash. Good luck in surviving the infection.

Never had it as bad as that Jerry. I'd guestimate I'm about 40 a side. 150 I would have cut my legs off.

Re: Milly bug hatch
This worked for me, haven't had a chance to try it this year.
3M Ultrathon 8 hr bug spray and Coppertone Sport Ultra Sweat Proof spray. Spray both on liberally. I'm not sure if this actually repels the little beasts, or forms an impenetrable barrier. Feels like a coat of spray paint. But it worked. Never got bit with that combo on.
This sucks if you have kids. If my son had 40 bites on each leg, he'd never go up there again. Last time I was up there with my son I did apply this combo and neither of us got bit. They are painful.
