Group openings for Bonaire Trip

Post by Windandwater »

Have room for more adventure seekers to join our group heading to the island of Bonaire, Feb. 21 to Mar. 4. In the past 7 yrs. we have sailed every day. Kiting, windsurfing, day and night snorkeling, SCUBA, and the fun of the group dynamics brings us back to this playground every year. E-mail me at WindandWater@aol.com if you would like more info.

I went with the group last year as a kiter. Steve Albright and I were the kite crew. Kiting there was really good...my first trip. The kite beach is on the leeward (sp??) side of the island, hence offshore wind. Everyone was flying 12m kites the whole time. There is a crew of Dutch who run kite beach. They bring the kite bus and a boat. They charge $10 to pick you up if you start drifting to Venezuella or Columbia. I only saw them pick up one guy in 7 days of kiting. With the wind being offshore, you are riding in smooth water. That makes for a great ride. There are small waves that come in from the south that make for good ramps.

The Dutch are great kiters. The ladies are beautiful and just as good at kiting as the guys. They are doing whip and wake tricks.

Funny story...On the first day out, Steve A. and I were looking to kite before kite beach got set up. We ended up going out in one of the salt evaporation ponds on the south side of the island. What a thrill. The wind constant (no gusts or holes), the water was clear and about 3 ft deep. We were in heaven...until the kite guys rode by and saw us. They started waving us down. Told us that we will be fined if we get caught in there. Later the Dutch kiters told us they were very envious of us. Steve and I got in about a 1.5 hour session in the pond (about 1 mile in diameter).
