I am wraping up a business trip in Asia and will stop at Maui on Wednesday, June 14 for 5 days before coming back to Minnesota. Any chance I can rent some equipment and a room from you? If not, do you know of any other contacts I could call when I arrive. Thanks.
Anyone else have any suggestions on a room for one? I would really appreciate it. Otherwise, back to the old hotels. Best regards.

I've made 10 trips to Maui. I like Hookipa Haven for lodging and Al West for Van Rental. (They'll want you to do both. So tell Hookipa that you already have van and tell Al that you already have a place.)
I wouldn't commit to one source for gear. Get your van. Drive around to the shops and take your pick. You might want to try a JP board one day and a Mistral the next. All the shops are within a few blocks of each other -- in Kahului. You'll find them.
Except Simmer and they might only rent sails. Simmer is in Paia. And Quatro is in Haiku in the old cannery. A stop to both spots, Paia town and the cannery in Haiku, is a must for any windsurfer, surfer, dreamer...
Doug Boll hangs out at uppers all day. From about 4:00 to 5:00, he'll be under the trees, by the lifeguard shack, drinking a red dog beer. You can't miss him. Say hi.

Hey John
Sorry, but we're no longer doing the Maui rental deal. I've always had good luck with Lenny at Hawaiian Island windsurfing and the people at Second Wind. They all do equipment and lodging, so you may do better with a package thing. In any event, they'll help you sort through the kind of rental you'd like (i.e. northshore, southshore, mountain, etc.). In addition to Doug, local White Bear sailor, Jim Brothen, has become quite the local, and would probably be a good contact if he's got some time. Email me at randy@just-be-it.com and I'll give you his cell.
Have a great time...the winds are on.
